Grants of up to $2,500 to Indiana nonprofit organizations, schools, libraries, and government agencies for educational activities related to the preservation and protection of historic places, structures, and properties. Funding is intended for projects such as presentations, lectures, workshops, booklets, brochures, reading/discussion programs, exhibitions, film documentaries, and more. The Fund is increasingly interested in supporting digital projects, such as online exhibits, webinars, and podcasts, which expand outreach and educated even more people about the value of historic preservation.
All projects must:
-Be related to historic properties in Indiana and have an educational purpose. (The grant is not for actual preservation projects.)
-Include a preservation professional/expert in implement and planning. Program personnel must have the necessary qualification and skills to carry out the project.
-Be intended for a public or school audience. Although sponsoring organizations may design programs for target audiences, the programs must be accessible to the public. Programs offered at a school, however, may be limited to certain students/classes.
-Be presented in a site that is accessible according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), or sponsors must make reasonable accommodation.
-Be founded on an excellence and viable idea. Applicants must show evidence of ability to implement that idea and execute it within the grant period.
Proposals will be evaluated based on the strength of the idea; the feasability of the methods and the organization's ability to execute the project; the clarity and reasonableness of the budget; the richness of educational content and clear contributions of historic preservation experts; and the extent to which the project aligns to the guidelines. The committee may also take into consideration other factors, such as geographic diversity and community need.
